Carboperm - Carbon In Permafrost

The joint BMBF project 'CarboPerm' investigates the formation and  transformation of organic carbon in permafrost using a multidisciplinary research approach (geographical, microbiological, isotope geochemical observations, analyses and models) in order to close current knowledge gaps in permafrost research. CarboPerm brings together German and Russian permafrost experts in six sub-projects.

Subproject 3 (PI's: J. Rethemeyer, G. Mollenhauer) "Age and quality of the organic material" determines the quality of the organic carbon stored in the permafrost and assesses the conversion of modern and fossil C fractions with the aid of 14C analyses of organic matter components.
